This lesson works especially well with Kindergarten and 1st Grade. I find teaching space with students this young can get boring and dry. Using rainforest animals helps bring the vocabulary words to life for the students. The lesson is also a great place to tie in cross-curricular science concepts. You can talk about trees from the root systems to the canopy, describe the biology of monkeys, and explore other specific plants and animals. Studying the rainforest is always fascinating for students! Be sure to check out a lot of great rainforest books from your media center to have on hand for inspiration.
