If you’ve had the opportunity to use a 3D printer with your students you know that students are engaged and excited about the process. This 3D printing lesson is a wonderful way for students to take 3D design to the next level. In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to explore form vs. function as they design an invention that serves a purpose but doesn’t already exist. (Try SketchUp or Tinkercad for the design portion.) Design thinking and problem-solving will play a huge part in this lesson as students create with the mentality of an engineer or architect.
This video by Digital Grotesque is a great way to introduce this lesson.
