This is a great, one day lesson to introduce your kindergartners to the idea of line, or to review line with your older elementary students. You can keep it simple and introduce the idea of a portrait or connect it to the idea of abstract art. You may even want to look at some Picasso for inspiration! I find that starting with the whole group at the board and letting students come up and draw different kinds of lines is a great way to engage them from the beginning. Who doesn’t love to draw on the board!? As a bonus, your brainstorming can serve as a reference for students all class period long. This would also be a wonderful lesson to leave for a sub.
