New Online Studio Class: Ceramics for Art Teachers!

Today we are excited to announce a brand new AOE class — Studio: Ceramics!

Ceramics

We all remember our ceramics classes in college when we were thrown into a studio and asked to create 10 pots that looked exactly the same. Fast forward a few years later and you are a teacher in the classroom. You have no pottery wheels, a limited budget, and students are so excited to “play with clay” that you don’t really know where to start.

During this course, you’ll fill in the gaps. Join us to experiment with hands-on advanced ceramics techniques such as using slips and underglazes, unique texture treatments, and advanced hand-building techniques. You’ll also make historical and interdisciplinary connections.

Think of it as a studio methods course — just for art teachers. You will try out the techniques and processes for yourself. As you create useful tools and finished pieces for the classroom, you will also learn how to break ceramics skills down for your students in a developmentally appropriate way and revamp your ceramics curriculum from the inside-out!

Learn more about this class from AOE Founder, Jessica Balsley:

All AOE Studio courses are taught by art educators experienced in a wide variety of ceramics techniques. All of the demonstrations are given by experts in the field of art education. This is a “teacher to teacher” class where you won’t need to work to make connections to the classroom or feel isolated. This is a studio class JUST for art teachers.

You may be wondering:
How does an online studio class work?

  • Each assignment will involve research and new learning through original, video-based demonstrations.
  • Each assignment will involve a classroom connection, helping you bring the various mediums into your own art room.
  • Each assignment will also involve you CREATING something and documenting your process for both personal and educational use in the classroom.

Trade in your textbook for a list of art supplies as you create, and earn Professional Development or Graduate credit in an online studio setting!
