9 Awesome Advocacy Resources for Art Education

Are you looking for data, research, quotes, or other arts education advocacy materials?  Check out the options listed below.

Listed are nine spectacular resources for almost anything you would need to advocate for your arts education program.

1. Iowa Alliance for Arts Education 

This organization is made up of many groups working together to increase, “awareness, recognition and support of policies, practices, and partnerships that ensure quality sequential arts education programs for all Iowa students.”

2. NAEA’s Advocacy Resources for Challenging Times

Founded in 1947, the National Art Education Association has been an organization devoted to the quality and advancement of arts education. It provides membership, resources, and support to art educators and those in arts-related careers. The NAEA’s advocacy page appeals to many different types of advocates.  Not only does this page have information and plans for advocating, but materials, research, flyers, and bookmarks for print and distribution.

3. Arts Education Partnership 

The result of a unique partnership between state-level organizations and federal-level organizations, AEP was established in 1995, and is, “dedicated to securing a high-quality arts education for every young person in America.” Just read their welcome and mission statements! There are also fabulous links to research, resources, the latest news, and ideas for how you can get involved.

4. California Alliance for Arts Education

This site has a useful video about how to give a compelling presentation to your school board. It also has a great list of other advocacy materials.

5. National Performing Arts Convention

In addition to other materials, here you will find a great article titled, Useful Quotes for Arts Advocates.

6. Americans for the Arts

With easy-to-navigate tabs to see the latest legislative issues, facts and figures, and access to an advocacy toolkit, this is a spectacular research-based advocacy start-up plan.

7. Arts Education and Advocacy: An Investment in Every Child’s Future

This thought-provoking article was on The Official Blog of the U.S. Department of Education and is now available in part on other websites.

8. Incredible Art Department’s Art Advocacy and Resources Page

The resources listed here are truly spectacular. This is one of the largest and most exhaustive lists of advocacy resources and tools out there.

9. ArtsEdSearch

A project of the AEP (#3), ArtsEdSearch is an ever-evolving resource of research and data that currently lists summaries of over 200 high-quality research studies that analyze and interpret the outcomes and benefits of an arts education.
