Do You Know the “Classroom Management Secret?” – Book Review

Classroom management isn’t going away. No matter how many years you’ve been teaching, a new tip or two never hurts! How about 45? One of my favorite authors, Michael Linsin, has a brand new book out called The Classroom Management Secret: And 45 Other Keys to a Well-Behaved Class. Watch the video below as I talk about some of the 45 Keys and how you can use them in the art room.

    I am trying classroom DOJO. It’s a new app and it’s pretty cool. http://www.classdojo.com it’s a little “big brother” for me so I’m just using the behavior piece with classes who really need it and the attendance piece with all classes. It works awesome for me to track behaviors. It’s an awesome way to take attendance on an iPad.

    With the little kids I also play a game of Guess Who to get them settled for their teacher in line. I’ll say something like “someone with pink shoes is ready really listening” most of the time more then one person feels like they are recognized. The whole class is eager to be the mystery compliment.

      I tried that last year with a hard grade (5th) and it just ended up being a very accurate way to take behavior data which is really not what I was needing for grades or otherwise. I think the trick, might be, to use it as a class (as a specialist), rather than individually. I also think it is good for people that already like this type of behavior management strategy and simply want to upgrade it digitally (it’s free!!). It really was not for me and ended up being one more thing to track. It had neither great positive or negative results in the end in terms of the way those classes were going at large.
