The Art Teacher’s Mantra

If you are like me, there are probably days you wonder “why did I even bother to get ready today?!” – As an art teacher, our job is pretty physical. With recess duty, hat hair, and clay hands, and sore feet from standing all day, it’s a wonder we come out in once piece –  but ahh yes, art teachers are resilient bunch – we don’t just do this job with grace, WE MAKE IT LOOK EASY! Carry on, my friends, you are rocking it!

I-look-good

Knowing that I LOVE what I do! Who cares if my hair is a little messy from recess duty or I have pastel all over my face? I get to make art every day and see fabulous students creating and having a great time in my art room! Even after those troublesome classes or those extra messy/chaotic classes, I still say goodbye with a smile on my face because I have the best job in the world.

I like to have a great smock collection. Marimekko smocks are my favorite splurge. Three quarter length sleeves are my friend.

Being organized( a necessary but difficult task at times ), wearing comfortable shoes, having wash and wear clothing, not caring that your hands have been multi-colored for the majority of the day and that you have oil pastel stuck under what was your nice finger nails from the summer ( see you nails until next summer! ) Smiling and breathing through the insanity, prioritize my tasks and being a multi, multi-tasker and enjoying and savoring the little moments in my day that make it all worth it! :)

Comfy shoes with an extra pair in the closet, laughing with students, Spray’n’Wash in the cupboard, watching the faces of students when they understand or discover something new, good dark chocolate in the back of the desk drawer, and a helpful custodian.
