Do You Put on an Art Show?
I’ve worked at a few different schools over my student teaching and teaching careers. At each, there were different traditions regarding displaying student work. At some, artwork was hung in the hallways, at others there were displays out in the community such as in the district office building or the public library. I’ve been a part of K-12 art shows and elementary-only art shows. When I made the move to my current school four years ago, I had the opportunity to start my own tradition.
Last month, I held my third annual All School Art Show. Each student had a piece of art up in the show, which meant matting and labeling close to 450 pieces of work. Other prep included buying treats, organizing art activities and advertising the show. It was a blast and it was EXHAUSTING. Although each year during the planning and preparing I inevitably ask myself, “Why on earth am I doing this?” the smiles on the students and family members’ faces always make it worth it.
So I’m curious to know, do you put on an art show?
What other elements do you add to your art shows (treats, an activity, etc)?
