I love color and painting. Teaching and reviewing color mixing is very important but sometimes students get bored with it. This lesson is one of my students’ favorite lessons! They love the history behind graffiti and especially like being able to write their name in different graffiti fonts. Instead of names you could have students choose a word that has meaning to them.
Be sure to have students label each shape with the appropriate color and check to make sure they labeled them correctly.
I prefer to have students mix the paint on plastic palettes so they save the colors for the next class period. When they paint, they start with yellow and move around the color wheel. This helps students and I see if they missed painting any sections. This lesson took about 6-7, 50 minute class periods.
I hope your students are as excited about painting their color wheels as mine were!
