Assessment As Advocacy Presentation Resources

As promised, for those of you who couldn’t attend my session “Assessment as Advocacy” on Saturday at the IA/NE Art Ed Conference, I would like to share my presentation resources and also link you to some of the additional assessment resources I referred to in my session.  Click on the image below, or right here, to download my presentation converted into Power Point. One day, while was bored on a Saturday afternoon (hahaha), I created this Ultimate Assessment PDF, which is a free download and links you to art assessments from around the nation.

Many of the examples I used came directly from the eBook: The Complete Guide to Simple Art Assessments, which you can purchase on our site for $9.

Looking for more ways to advocate for your program through the new assessments you are creating? I would highly suggest the class Advocating for the Arts, which will run for the first time in November. You will leave this class with a comprehensive Advocacy Toolkit to help you easily and seamlessly promote your art program all year round.

    Thanks for sharing – always looking for examples of assessment. AZ is in the beginning stages of  fine art and music common assessments so our district piloting some for 3rd and 5th grades this year. Hopefully, by leading the charge and working out the kinks, we can play a prominent role in the final form that is adopted by the state.

    I purchased your Simple Assessments Book. In that book there  was a sheet entitled, “I Can….” I have started using these sheets in every grade level with the goal of enabling students to write a full one paragraph (at least) artist statement hopefully by January. I have project sheets on a large board for every project per grade level. Key vocabulary and processes are on those sheets. As they write their I Can statements they are to refer to the project sheets. I am looking for key vocabulary as they write. It is amazing what my students are doing AND talking about. I am so excited to be able to help a child write and talk about their work in a articulate manner. It is GREAT stuff!
