The “You Matter” Art Project

Sometimes it can be difficult to find that perfect project to start your school year off with. The first project of the year has to strike a nice balance between something that will not only inspire kids, but also get them excited and engaged in art making. When I came across Angela Maiers’ TED talk on “You Matter“, I just knew creating 2D and digital artwork using this message as motivation would be the perfect way to start out our year in the art room. The “You Matter” Manifesto was developed by Angela and is aimed at changing the world with these 2 simple words – by reminding people that “you matter.”

Check out the video my students made all on the iPad showing our own take on “You Matter!”

Students thought of ways that they could create artwork that helped share the idea of You Matter.  They created 2D and digital artwork about this theme. Check out their finished artwork here.

I forwarded this article to our elementary school guidance councelor.  We may coordinate a project on this later this year when she talks about “self-esteem” with her students!
