This lesson is one of the first to introduce Line to 1st grade students in the fall. The goal of the students with this lesson is to produce various line types to create a composition. Because this is one of the very first lessons of the year I do with 1st grade, it is very simple, straightforward, and all of the pieces turn out looking great, and different from one another. I save these and display them in October when the leaves are in their full glory here in Iowa.
Although I do not have an artist connection with this lesson, there is a science component. We talk about how the trees loose leaves in the fall, and what types of colors the leaves change to. This is their first introduction to warm colors, which we will hit in great depth in 2nd grade.
