This lesson is one of the first lessons to introduce line and shape to 1st grade students. Students will independently draw at least 1 geometric shape and 3 different line types, all while learning about Kandinsky’s style of abstract painting. Because Kandinsky listened to music while he painted, the students also get to experience classical music while painting. It’s amazing how quiet the room gets when this happens. These paintings are successful not only because of the art history and art elements they teach, but the products also turn out to be something parents want to frame in their homes: a win/win situation for everyone.
